Murang’a University of Technology, formerly Murang’a University College (MRUC), was established through Legal Notice No.129 of September, 2011 as a Constituent College of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). One of the schools to be established was School of Business and Economics and became fully operational in 2013 with two departments, namely commerce and Human Resource Departments. The first programmes to be introduced were BCom, BPSM and BBIT
All the SBE programmes, unit codes and unit titles were aligned to Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology. In addition all SBE exams and exam results were moderated and then forwarded to the Senate JKUAT for consideration and possible approval .However, when the university was chartered on October 7th, 2016 it became an autonomous institution, all these lengthy procedures came to an end.
