PhD in Human Resource Management

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Direct Entry

A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements.

EITHER

  1. Be a holder of MSC in Human Resource Management from Murang’a University of Technology.

OR

  1. Be a holder of MSC in Human Resource Management and any Master’s degree in Business relate course from an institution recognized by CUE and the University Senate.

OR

  1. Be a holder of any other qualification accepted by the University Senate as equivalent to any of the above.

Possession of the Minimum requirements does not guarantee automatic admission to the programme.

DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The PhD in Human Resource shall take a minimum of three academic years. The total lecture hours shall be 270 hours followed with thesis writing or thesis only.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The student is required to have accomplished a total of 2160 hours before being eligible for graduation. To be considered for the award of PhD Degree a candidate must have taken and passed in all units including research thesis.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

The programme runs for two years of full time registration. The first year shall be devoted to course work and development of research proposal while the second year shall be spent on fieldwork, course work and thesis writing. The programme shall consist of a minimum of 53 units of course work and thesis.  The programme requirements sequence per semester is as follows:

1st Year

1st Semester    Course Work                       3 units

2nd Semester  Course Work                       3 units

2nd Year

1st Semester    proposal development                                         

2nd Semester  data collection

3rd Year

1st Semester defending the thesis

2nd semester implementing commends binding and submission                                        

TOTAL                                                     6 UNITS

CLASSIFICATION OF THE DEGREE

  1. A candidate who qualifies for the award of the PhD Degree shall be awarded the degree after passing thesis.
  2. The PhD Degree classification shall be graded as follows:

               50% and above                Pass

               Below 50%                      Fail
